In an effort to improve road safety in Odesa, authorities are planning to expand the network of stationary monitoring systems.
Following a joint analysis of accident hotspots conducted with representatives from the National Police and the Department of Transport, four new locations have been identified for the installation of automated violation detection cameras.
New monitoring points include:
- the intersection of Mykhailo Hrushevskyi Street and Protsenka Street: two cameras will be installed here, one capturing oncoming traffic and the other monitoring traffic in the direction of Roman Shukhevych Street. In 2024, five accidents with injuries occurred here;
- the intersection of Heavenly Hundred Avenue and Shkilnyi Aerodrome Street: two cameras will monitor traffic heading towards Levitana Street. In the last three years, there have been 12 accidents with injuries;
- the intersection of Lustdorf Road and Breus Street: one camera will capture oncoming traffic heading towards Admiral Avenue. This location has also recorded 12 accidents with injuries;
- 3rd station of Lustdorf Road: one camera will monitor oncoming traffic towards Heroes of Kruty Street. There were nine accidents with injuries in the last three years.
The installation of cameras has been approved by the relevant authorities and complies with the regulations established by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. The decision to expand the camera network will soon be presented to the Odesa City Council.
It is expected that the new devices will help reduce the number of accidents and enhance driver discipline on the city roads.
