At the UNESCO center in Regensburg, the exhibition "German Historical Heritage in Ukraine and Odessa" has been launched.
Originating from Odessa, this exhibition showcases a collection of historical documents and artifacts that narrate the lives of German settlers in the Odessa region since the early 19th century and their impact on the development of the city and the region.
The exhibition is divided into three sections: historical, artistic, and contemporary. The historical section was prepared by the renowned historian Alexander Surilov, while the artistic section features works by Odessa artist Tatyana Romanenko.
Additionally, the exhibition reflects the collaboration between Regensburg and Odessa, including the support received by Odessa from Regensburg during the ongoing conflict.
This exhibition has been organized with the support of the Odessa Department of Culture and the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection in Regensburg.
During his working visit to Germany, Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov and Regensburg Mayor Gertrud Malz-Schwarzfischer participated in the opening ceremony. Historians, scholars, political figures, and Odessa residents living in Germany were also present at the event.
Mayor Trukhanov expressed his gratitude for the support extended to Odessa.
"Soon we will mark a thousand days of war, which signifies our struggle and the support that Ukraine receives from European countries, including Regensburg".
The Mayor noted that Odessa has become a refuge for thousands of displaced persons, just as it was in the past when Ukrainians, Germans, Jews, and other nations settled along the Black Sea, each contributing to the city's cultural development.
"Germany has significantly influenced the agricultural development of the region, and thus the infrastructure. We value this contribution and continue to strengthen our ties. Today we are here to thank you for uncovering interesting, and for some unknown, pages of our shared history".
Today, our relationship with Regensburg remains strong and unwavering, just like our faith in victory and love for freedom and independence in Ukraine. We believe in a brighter future and know that together we can overcome any challenges.
