The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has submitted new legislative initiatives to the Verkhovna Rada aimed at extending martial law and mobilization in the country for another 90 days. If approved by parliament, these measures will be in effect until August 6, 2025.
The relevant bills, numbered 13172 and 13173, have already been registered on the official website of the Verkhovna Rada.
Martial law and mobilization are being extended in Ukraine
As of Tuesday morning, April 15, both documents have been sent for processing to the specialized committee of the Verkhovna Rada on national security, defense, and intelligence. In the texts of the bills, the head of state proposes to approve the corresponding presidential decrees regarding the extension of martial law and mobilization for a period of 90 days.
According to the text of the bill about extending general mobilization (likely №13173), the law is set to come into effect on May 9, 2025, after being announced through the media.
The bill regarding the extension of martial law (likely №13172) is expected to take effect “from the day of its publication” after being approved by the Verkhovna Rada and signed by the President.
What is known about the extension of mobilization and martial law in Ukraine
On February 5, the President signed laws extending mobilization and martial law until May 9, 2025.
On November 6, Zelensky signed laws extending mobilization and martial law until February 7, 2025.
Previously, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law approving the President's decree regarding the extension of martial law in Ukraine from November 10 for a period of 90 days.
