As the end of support for Windows 10 approaches, Microsoft is offering users new ways to continue using the system. The company now allows users to purchase security updates, known as Extended Security Updates (ESU), for 1000 Microsoft Rewards points.
The official end of support for Windows 10 is set for October 14, 2025; however, according to StatCounter, this OS version remains the most popular among Microsoft users, holding a 53.19% share. In contrast, the latest version, Windows 11, holds only 43.22%. This means that more than half of users can take advantage of this opportunity for free.
By exchanging 1000 Microsoft Rewards points, users can extend their security updates for an additional year, until October 13, 2026.
If you don't have 1000 points, they can easily be earned by using Bing search, particularly through the Microsoft Edge browser, shopping at the Microsoft Store, playing games via Xbox, and engaging actively with the company's services.
Alternatively, users can purchase a year of ESU for $30. After the end of support for Windows 10, users will have the option to choose one of the available plans, after which their PC will be automatically registered for ESU.
Organizations can also obtain ESUs for $61 per device, allowing them to receive critical and important updates for a year. The subscription can also be renewed annually for up to three years, but the cost will increase each time.
