Microsoft has unveiled an upgraded version of its Copilot assistant, now featuring the GPT-5 model from OpenAI. This update is now available to users of Microsoft 365, GitHub, Azure AI Foundry, and mobile applications.

A notable addition is the Smart Mode feature, which allows the system to automatically select the best model based on the complexity of the task. This ensures an optimal balance between response speed and depth of data analysis.

In Microsoft 365, Copilot has improved context understanding, the ability to maintain long conversations, and response accuracy. GitHub Copilot with GPT-5 is accessible to paid users through a chatbot, VS Code, and mobile app, while organizations can customize access policies.

In Azure AI Foundry, the new model is available via an API with automatic settings selection, supporting multimodal scenarios and extended context. Regular Copilot users can access GPT-5 for free.
