Microsoft has officially introduced the Mixed Reality Link system, allowing Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets to function as monitors for Windows 11. Previously available only to beta testers, this feature is now gradually being rolled out to all users.
Mixed Reality Link creates a virtual workspace where users can see multiple high-quality displays that mimic actual monitors. To use it, one must install the Mixed Reality Link client on a Windows 11 computer and connect the Meta Quest headset.
The service also supports Microsoft’s cloud solutions, including Windows 365 Cloud PC, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Dev Box. This functionality enables users to access a virtual desktop even without a powerful local computer, as the computing is handled in the cloud.
Its capabilities are reminiscent of Apple Vision Pro, but at a significantly lower price point. The basic Meta Quest 3S headset retails for around $300, while the Vision Pro starts at $3,500.
Meta continues to invest heavily in the AR/VR space, recently unveiling new smart glasses featuring an integrated display, the Ray-Ban Display, alongside a new generation of Ray-Ban Meta.
