Apple is considering the integration of new artificial intelligence search technologies, including those from OpenAI, Perplexity, and Anthropic, into its Safari browser. Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President, believes that AI search could eventually replace traditional search engines like Google, as reported by Bloomberg.

This statement was made by Cue during his testimony in the US Department of Justice's lawsuit against Google. The lawsuit concerns a deal worth about $20 billion that grants Google the default search engine status in Safari.

According to Cue, AI search will not be enabled by default but is expected to appear in the browser over time. He also mentioned that the company is already in discussions with Perplexity.

During his testimony, Cue also revealed that the number of search queries in Safari decreased for the first time last month, attributing this to the increasing use of artificial intelligence instead of traditional search engines.

Currently, Apple offers its customers integration of OpenAI's ChatGPT into Siri and may expand its offerings with Google's Gemini by the end of the year. Cue also noted that the company is considering integrating AI technologies from DeepSeek and xAI.

Nonetheless, Cue is convinced that Google should remain the default search engine in Safari, as the partnership offers the best financial terms for Apple.

Interestingly, during his testimony, Cue also speculated that in 10 years, iPhones might become obsolete due to the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology.
