In Odesa, efforts are ongoing to establish a new Memorial honoring fallen defenders.
A planning meeting was held at City Hall, chaired by Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov, focusing on commemorating the Heroes.
During the meeting, the concept of the Memorial was presented, developed by architect Davyd Pishchev in close collaboration with the families of military personnel.
It is worth noting that previous meetings showcased the gravestone designs.
One of the key discussions was about identifying a location for the Memorial, which will enable precise planning. The mayor pointed out that since 2014, there has been a shortage of burial sites in Odesa. To expand the cemetery, the city purchased land from private individuals that was previously part of the airport's property, acquired by them in 1992.
The Director of the Legal Department, Inna Popovska, clarified that this concerns a single property complex currently under the management of the Municipal Capital Construction Enterprise. This area is being considered as a potential site for the Memorial.
The mayor has tasked the land and cadastral bureau with conducting aerial photography of the site for further planning and project development.
According to Davyd Pishchev's proposal, the Memorial will include:
- standardized sectors for military burials;
- a universal building for farewell ceremonies and commemorative events;
- a park area with elements that allow for creative expressions of grief.
Work on analyzing proposals and sourcing resources for the project's implementation is ongoing. The establishment of the Memorial will be a significant step in preserving the memory of those who gave their lives for Ukraine.
