Apple has announced plans to develop a new chatbot intended to serve as a more convenient alternative to ChatGPT. According to Bloomberg, in early 2025, Apple formed an internal team called "Answers, Knowledge, and Information" that focuses on creating a simplified AI solution for searching the web and answering user queries.
This move indicates a strategic shift for the company: in 2024, Apple introduced the Apple Intelligence platform, which did not include its own chatbot but integrated ChatGPT into Siri. At that time, the company had doubts about the overall effectiveness of such tools, and thus did not prioritize this area.
However, Apple has now decided to create its own AI search service as these solutions have proven popular among users. The new tool may be launched as a standalone application and could also be integrated into Siri, Spotlight, and Safari.
Robbie Walker, who previously led Siri's development, has been appointed head of the chatbot development team. Apple is currently advertising positions for this project, seeking experts in search algorithms and engine development.
The Cupertino-based company is also in negotiations with several AI startups, including Perplexity, which specializes in AI-based search. This will help strengthen Apple's stance among competitors.
Since Apple has just begun work on these new AI tools, a product launch should not be expected in the near future.
