OpenAI has announced the introduction of group chat capabilities in ChatGPT, which will soon be available to all users.
Following successful trials in Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Taiwan, the company has confirmed the full rollout of the feature.
This new option allows users to create group conversations, inviting up to 20 participants via a link. Users can join using an existing ChatGPT account or by registering a new one.
Participants can collaboratively pose questions to ChatGPT and respond to each other’s messages.
OpenAI clarified that the content of group chats is not stored. Any participant can remove others from the conversation, except for the original creator.
Additionally, it has been reported that group chats in ChatGPT will operate on the GPT-5.1 Auto model, which automatically selects the best model based on the context of the request and the user's plan.
As a reminder, OpenAI recently released the new GPT-5.1 language model featuring Instant and Thinking modes, enhancing its capabilities.
