Ukrainians can now utilize a new feature in the 'Diia' app to check for the presence of the energy-independent xPON network on a map.
According to the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, this map will help users assess the stability of internet connectivity and plan work or study during power outages.
The 'Diia' app will allow users to quickly see:
- xPON providers servicing specific addresses;
- the availability of xPON technology, which enables internet access without electricity;
- the duration of network operation during outages (for example, 4, 8, or 72 hours).
"Users will be able to leave feedback about provider performance, fostering healthy competition and improving services," the statement noted.
It was also highlighted that the map will display coverage of energy-independent internet across Ukraine. "This will allow us to identify "white spots" in coverage and work with providers to eliminate them, which is particularly crucial for communities in conflict zones," the ministry added.
The Ministry noted that in the fall of 2025, during a new wave of power outages, demand for xPON increased by 45% to 77% in various regions. Currently, 52% of subscribers use this technology, compared to only 30% in 2021. The leaders in coverage (over 70%) are Vinnytsia, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Volyn regions.
It is important to note that xPON (Passive Optical Network) is a technology that allows users to remain online without power for up to 72 hours. The optical cable connects directly to apartments, and there is no equipment along the route that requires electricity. The main requirement is that users only need to power their router and ONU terminal.
