OpenAI is gearing up to launch its inaugural hardware product. This was stated by the company’s global affairs director, Chris Lehan, during the Axios House Davos event. He mentioned that the company is "on track" to unveil the device in the latter half of 2026.

This aligns with industry forecasts that predict a commercial release of OpenAI's hardware product in 2027, but this year’s official announcement is already generating interest within the sector.

Meanwhile, Jony Ive’s team at OpenAI has welcomed former Apple employee Janum Trivedi, who previously worked on SpringBoard and developed features like Split View, Multitasking Drag & Drop, and gestures for iPadOS 15. Trivedi has joined the OpenAI × LoveFrom design team, focusing on io products.

OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman and former Apple designer Jony Ive announced last May their collaboration on a family of AI-focused hardware products. Recently, they revealed that the first prototype is already completed, and development is ongoing.

Incidentally, earlier this month, The Information reported that OpenAI is enhancing its audio models ahead of the hardware product launch, which will primarily focus on audio functionalities.

Thus, 2026 could mark OpenAI's first foray into its own hardware realm.
